Students new to flamenco are invited to attend! Flamenco and Bullfighting

Explore the movement skills and imperatives of Spanish bullfighting, taking turns being the matador and the bull, and discover parallels in the movement vocabulary and nuances of the flamenco dance style. This class is fun, informative, and thought-provoking. It will both enrich your appreciation of the flamenco arts and inform your artistic choices for years to come.

Take a two-hour trip into the Spanish culture and deepen your knowledge of the flamenco dance style.

Flamenco Dance Notation

When you learn how to write flamenco dance movements down on paper, your brain and body integrate this new knowledge more effectively than if you were to watch the same dance steps on video.

When you learn how to write flamenco dance movements down on paper, your brain and body integrate this new knowledge more effectively than if you were to watch the same dance steps on video.

Learning how to notate flamenco dance steps will help you better understand the rhythm and structures of flamenco dance. The mysteries of the flamenco compás become clear and visible through the process of notating. This portable, user-friendly system is adapted from Laban's internationally-recognized system of dance notation. Adair has taught her unique notation method at the University of Cadíz, Spain, the Escuela Nacional de la Danza in Mexico City, and at the Flamenco Festival Internacional in Albuquerque.

A great tool for learning, collecting and sharing your favorite dance steps and choreographed dances.
